Roles and access
The difference between students, moderators and administrators, and what each can do.
What you can see and do in EasyClass depends on your role. There are two broad groups: students and staff. Staff is further split into moderators and administrators, and access can be fine-tuned with permission scopes.
The three main roles
Student
Takes courses. Sees only their own enrolled courses, coursework, grades, schedule and invoices.
Moderator
Teaching and support staff. Manages the programs, cohorts or classes they are assigned to.
Administrator
Full access to the organization: setup, people, financials and settings.
Student
Students land in the student experience at /student.
They can only access the courses they are enrolled in and their own records. They
never see the back-office.
Moderator
Moderators are staff who work in the back-office but with scoped access. A moderator is typically assigned to specific programs, cohorts or classes and manages those. Instructors and professors who teach courses usually hold moderator-level access.
Administrator
Administrators have full access, including organization settings, roles and permissions, financials and every program, class and user.
Permission scopes
Beyond the three roles, EasyClass has a granular permissions system managed under Roles and permissions. Permissions are granted at a scope:
global, program, cohort, class, course, lecture, exam, event, owner
This lets you, for example, make someone a moderator for a single cohort without giving them access to anything else.
Where you are routed after signing in
EasyClass checks your role when you sign in. Students go to the student area, staff go to the admin area. You do not choose: it is decided by your account.
