Classes
Create and run classes, the live instances of teaching where students and courses come together.
A Class is a running instance of teaching with a start and end date. It is where students, courses and lectures come together. If you only remember one screen in the back-office, make it this one.
Two kinds of class
Program-based
Built from a program blueprint and attached to a cohort. Use this for structured, multi-course programs.
Standalone
Assembled freely from chosen courses and students, with no parent program. Use this for one-off or short classes.

Class status
Every class has a status:

Creating a class
Start a new class
Go to Instruction → Classes and select New.
Choose the type
Pick Program-based (then select the program and cohort) or Standalone.
Set the details
Give the class a name and set its start and end dates.
Add courses
Add the courses this class will teach. For a program-based class these come from the program blueprint; for a standalone class you pick them from the Course Catalog.
Add students
Enroll the students who will take the class. For program-based classes this is usually the cohort's students.
Schedule and teach
Add lectures, materials, assignments and exams to each course, then run the class.
Managing a class
Open a class to manage its courses, students, schedule and settings, including attendance settings.
Program-based vs standalone: which should I use?
If students progress together through a defined curriculum with formulas, transcripts and certificates, use a program and program-based classes. For a single course or a short training with no long-term record, a standalone class is simpler.
